Dear friends of Regional Rail: The next meeting of the Regional Rail Working Group will be on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 6-8pm, Hoboken Parking Utility Conference Room, Ground Floor, Hoboken City Hall. The meeting will continue the discussion begun at the last meeting on defining doable near-term strategies that can advance the Penn Station Metro-Hub plan. These will include options for a "pilot" through-running all day service linking points in NJ with points in the Bronx, Westchester and CT and PATH/NYCT fare integration that can use existing fare collection technology already in place. Also, discussion will continue on the benefits, costs and key operational issues that must be considered in advancing the Penn Station-Grand Central connection as part of a regional rail plan. Time permitting, brief updates will be made on other RRWG initiatives, including a one-seat ride to JFK Airport and options for new Hudson River rail capacity. The Regional Rail Working Group is an informal forum for rail advocates who would like to remake the the commuter rail lines serving the NY-NJ-CT metropolitan area into a regional rail system, with frequent service, integrated fares and through-running at Penn Station. Save the date -- next Tuesday, March 20, 2012 6-8pm at Transportation Alternatives, 127 W. 26th Street, 10th Floor, NY, NY -- the next combined vision42 working group/Auto-Free New York meeting will feature a discussion of a plan for a 1st and/or 2nd Avenue light rail line that would be the successor to the M15 Select Bus Service now in place. This discussion will review a plan developed by IRUM intern Philipp Rode that is posted on IRUM's website. If you get a chance please review this plan. Please RSVP if you plan to attend this meeting to info@vision42.org Hope you can make it to both meetings.
