Dear friends of Regional Rail:
The next regular monthly meeting of the Regional Rail Working Group
(RRWG) will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 6-8pm (meeting will
start promptly at 6pm) Conference Room, NYPD Downtown Center 104
Washington Street (just north of Rector Street), Lower Manhattan.
Please note that this a change of date. There will NOT be a meeting this
Wednesday as orginally planned.
Because of the holidays in November and December we've had to juggle a
few dates.
The November RRWG meeting will be combined with the regular monthly
meeting of Auto-Free New York.
The key speaker for this combined meeting will be David Peter Alan,
Chair, Lackawanna Coalition.
The topic will be:
"The new Hudson River Passenger Rail Tunnels: Why Governor-elect Christie
should drop the deep cavern station under 34th St. and call for an
interconnected link to Moynihan/Penn Station"
With new leadership soon to be installed in Trenton, this is an excellent
time to make the case for a more cost effective, environmentally more
sustainable and decidedly more passenger-friendly plan to provide
much-needed additional rail capacity.
Please invite others to attend. The presentation will be oriented to a
more general audience, even as we take advantage of the rail experts who
regularly attend the RRWG meetings.
To the extent that time allows we will also have brief progress reports
on other regional rail initiatives.
The next regular Regional Rail Working Group meeting will be held on
Wednesday, December 16, 2009, 6-8pm, also at 104 Washington Street in
Lower Manhattan.
Finally, save the date for the December Auto-Free New York meeting, which
will be held jointly with the vision42 working group meeting (also at 104
Washington Street):

- Tuesday, December 15, 2009 6-8pm
"A New Civic Vision for the Grand Concourse:
Fewer Cars, More Green Space, and a Modern Light Rail Line for the
Bronx"
Taewook Cha, Landscape Architect, AECOM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope to see you on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 and on Tuesday and
Wednesday, December 15 and 16, 2009.
If you cannot make these meetings please forward your comments so that we
may share them others.
The purpose of the working group is to develop and advance plans for
converting the region's commuter rail lines into a regional rail system,
with fast, frequent service and affordable, integrated fares. The group
also considers changes to rapid transit and light rail transit that are
"regional" in scale.
Regional Rail issues are discussed on our website: www.rrwg.org
The Working Group includes:
