The next meeting of the Regional Rail Working Group will be: Wednesday, May 25, 2011 6-8pm Location: Hoboken Parking Utility Conference Room, Ground Floor City Hall, 98 Washington Street, Hoboken New Jersey Two blocks west of the Hoboken Terminal PATH Station The discussion will continue on near term measures to increase capacity and efficiency of the three commuter rail lines and Amtrak that serve the NY-NJ-CT by remaking them into a regional rail system -- with frequent service, integrated fares and through running at Penn Station. We will focus on bringing Metro-North trains into Penn Station, even before completion of the LIRR East Sider Access Project. Also, the discussion will continue on "affordable" options for new Hudson River passenger rail tunnels and practical solutions to the Portal Bridge "problem". Time permitting other RRWG initiatives will be discussed. The Regional Rail Working Group is an informal collaboration of transit advocacy organizations that meet monthly to advance plans for transforming the commuter rail lines that serve the NY-NJ-CT metropolitan area into a truly regional rail system, with frequent service, integrated fares and through operation.
